Question: How can God, who is love, send men to hell to suffer eternally?

Posted by tjcsg on November 28, 2011

How can God, who is love, send men to hell to suffer eternally? Since He loves every human being, shouldn’t He allow everyone to go to heaven?

God does not take pleasure in the death of the wicked (Ezek 18:23). Like the prodigal son’s father, He wants everyone to turn from evil and live (Lk 15:11-24; Ezek 18:31,32; 33:11). How can God not love you? Out of His love, He even gave His own son to us so that we may have eternal life (Jn 3:16,17).

While God offers everyone love and forgiveness, He does not force His love on those who do not want it. Because He loves us, He wants us to be free. We are given free choice to accept or deny God’s love. God does allow everyone to go to heaven, but not everyone chooses heaven. If a person chooses to sin and refuses to repent, he chooses to reject God’s love. By rejecting God’s love, he chooses hell because hell in essence is the absence of God’s love. There is no other choice, since the only place where God’s love
does not exist is hell.

If so, can God forgive those who don’t believe in Him? How can God not forgive them or is there anyone really so evil as to deserve the eternal punishment of hell?

God does not intend to send anyone to hell. Instead, He “desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Tim 2:4). We should not think of hell as God’s vengeful punishment. Hell is a choice. People choose hell by rejecting the grace of God. When we sin, we choose to be separated from God, and this separation is exactly what hell is—eternal separation from God, His love, and His joy. Our very action of sinning is its own punishment.

When addressing the question of whether anyone deserves hell, Peter Kreeft and Ronald K. Tacelli explains, “Hell’s punishment fits sin’s crime  because sin is divorce from God. The punishment fits the crime because the punishment is the crime. Saying no to God means no God. The point is really very simple. Those who object to hell’s  over-severity do not see what sin really is. They probably look at sin externally, sociologically, legalistically, as ‘behaving badly.’ They fail to see the real horror of sin and the real greatness and goodness and joy of the God who is refused in every sin. We all fail to appreciate this. Which of us fully appreciates God’s beauty? The corollary immediately follows: which of us fully appreciates sin’s ugly horror?”

If God makes everyone go to heaven, including those who do not want God or to be forgiven by Him, then human beings have no free choice. God does not force anyone to be in heaven, although His grace of forgiveness is available to all. We need to make the choice to accept this grace.

God loves you. He manifested His love by sending His only Son to die on the cross so that He may open the new way for us to be reconcile with Him. How can God not save us who are His creation? God loves us, He had redeemed us with His blood.

Question: Some say Hell is what you make it to mislead people? Is Hell real?

Posted by tjcsg on November 24, 2011

Some say Hell is what you make it to mislead people.  Is Hell real?

Some say Hell is what you make it to make kids behave. Does Hell really exist?

The arguments for the existence of Hell are similar in nature to the arguments for the existence of Heaven.

To test whether Hell exists, we need to examine whether our sources of information—the Bible and Jesus Christ—are trustworthy

Some say Hell is what you make it by which God forces people to believe in Him. Such a threat robs people of their freedom of choice. People should be given the choice to reject God without fearing the fires of Hell. Is Hell a scare tactic?

Hell is not a scare tactic that God uses to pressure people into believing in him. God did not invent Hell to scare us. Hell is simply reality. If anyone does not want to be with God, that’s what he will get—separation from God. There is no other alternative. Seeing the reality of Hell for what it is doesn’t rob us of the freedom of choice because we can still choose to reject God. On the contrary, it helps us make an informed decision. Out of his love for us, God wants us to see the dreadful nature of sin and come to Christ for forgiveness.

If God knew that some would go to Hell, why did he still allow them to be born into the world? He could have stopped them from even being conceived.

If God allows only those who choose heaven to be born, he is taking away free will because those who would choose to sin are not even given the freedom to live, not to mention the freedom to choose.

Question: Do we have evidence that heaven is real or is it just wishful thinking?

Posted by tjcsg on November 21, 2011

Do we have evidence that Heaven is real or is it just wishful thinking?

Have you ponder why are there so many Christians that keep talking about Heaven? Is it really through that man’s sufferings on earth is temporary and when we leave the world we can go heaven?

Heaven is real and not wishful thinking or human invention.

  • There is no scientific evidence for Heaven. Not everything can be proved with methods known to science today. For example, can you show someone your love with scientific evidence? Since our scientific knowledge is limited, we cannot use it as the ultimate authority.
  • Is there any scientific evidence that proves the assumption that whatever cannot be proven by science does not exist? If even this assumption cannot be proven by science, why do you believe it?
  • To find out whether Heaven is real, we need to find out whether the Bible and Jesus are true because they both teach us about Heaven. If the Bible is indeed God’s word and if Jesus is indeed Lord and Savior, then Heaven must be real.
  • We know that Jesus Christ has risen from the dead because he answers our prayers and pours out his Holy Spirit as he has promised. Since we know that Christ has risen and gone to Heaven, we know that Heaven is real.
  • The argument that Heaven does not exist because we want it so much is fallacious. If this reasoning is true, it could work the other way, too (i.e. because you don’t want Heaven to exist, Heaven must be real because your wishful thinking has to be false). To refute an idea, we should provide solid evidence instead of simply calling it wishful thinking.

Heaven is real. Now the next thing we may ask is why talk about Heaven which is something so far from reality when there are enough things in this life to worry about?

Heaven is not only a remote idea or something so far from reality. Since Heaven is real we have to orient our daily lives to this goal.

Our life on earth is not detached from our eternal destiny. Our earthly tasks reflect what we believe to be our ultimate goal. If you set your goal on something false, you will waste your entire life in meaningless pursuits. That is why we must find out whether there is Heaven. If Heaven is real, then we have to orient our daily lives to this goal.

The belief in Heaven actually makes a direct positive impact in this life. A believer who looks forward to Heaven brings blessings to others because they obey God’s command to love others as themselves. While God’s promises may pertain to the life to come, God’s commandments are for this life, not the after life. Our belief in Heaven does not detract from our present responsibilities. On the contrary, it motivates us to make a difference on earth.

Question: Can God defeat Satan?

Posted by tjcsg on November 17, 2011

Many people may be interested to know why doesn’t God exterminate the devil sooner? They may ask: Can God defeat Satan? Today we shall find the answers from the bible.

Can God defeat Satan?

“They cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” (Eccl 3:11) “The secret things belong to the Lord our God but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever.” (Deut 29:29) “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways.” (Isa 55:9) The above question concerns “secret things.” However, there are some answers in the Bible:

1. God’s perspective of time is different from that of men.
“For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.” (Ps 90:4) What men see as a delay does not work the same for God. The six thousand years of human history may be six days in God’s sight. God has his timing for everything (Eccl 3:17; Acts 1:7).

2. God wants to reveal His great power.
The Pharaoh of ancient Egypt personifies Satan. God said to him, “For by now I could have stretched out my hand and struck you and your people with a plague that would have wiped you off the earth. But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” (Ex 9:15-16; Rom 9:17) This is a hint a Satan. God allowed Pharaoh to resist to the end in order to reveal His great power. For the same reason God does not want to destroy Satan right now.

3. God wants to reveal His wrath:
The Bible says, “God, choosing to show His wrath and making His power known, bore with great patience the objects of His wrath – prepared for destruction.” (Rom 9:22) The greater the patience showed, the greater the build up of wrath, the worse the destruction will be. In future, when Satan is destroyed, we will see that God’s wrath is just and that His power is unique.

4. Satan knows his time is short
Satan said to Jesus, “Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?” (Mt 8:29) We see that God’s patience is not without limit. The “eternal fire” has been prepared (Mt 25:41). The devil also knows there will be a time for torture, eternal torture (Rev 21:10). Therefore they cannot help trembling (Jas 2:19).

If God can defeat Satan, what is the fate of Satan?

1. Cursed:
After Adam sinned, God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, cursed are you.” (Gen 3:14)

2. Defeated:
God said to the serpent, “The offspring of woman will crush your head.” (Gen 3:15) Christ’s death on the cross defeats the power of death – which Satan holds over man. “O death where is your power?”

3. Judged:
The Holy Spirit came for righteousness and judgment. “In regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.” (Jn 16:8,11) “The prince of this world” refers to Satan.

4. Driven out:
“I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God.” (Ezek 28:16) “Now the prince of this world will be driven out.” (Jn 12:31) “The prince of this world is coming.” (Jn 14:30) It means that the devil is hurled to the ground from heaven, kept in gloomy dungeons (2 Pet 2:4; Jude 6). This world is a place of darkness (Lk 1:79), of which Satan is in command (Eph 6:12).

5. Bound:
Satan was bound for a thousand years and kept in the abyss (Rev 20:2-3). Then he is set free for a short time, for the final deception and battle (Rev 20:7).

6. Thrown into the lake of burning sulphur:
“Then the end will come, when h hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power.” (1 Cor 15:24) Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire (Rev 20:14). Since the power and authority o the inventor of evil are destroyed, death no longer prevails. Therefore it is said, “The last enemy to be destroyed is death.” (1 Cor 15:26)

Is there a possibility for neutrality between God and the Satan?

There is a distinct line between God and the devil, i.e. the difference between light and darkness. Unless they move towards the light, people live in darkness. Whoever does not belong to God belongs to the devil. There are only two categories of men – those who are not God’s children are then children of the devil (1 Jn 3:9-10; 5; 19).

When God comes again which He has promised He will, He will defeat Satan and cast him into the fiery lake for eternal condemnation.
