Why are there so many churches in the world today? Do all churches preach the same thing? Why the difference? Does it matter? These are important questions that a true Christian who searches the Scriptures must discover and ultimately believe in? The following is a sermon transcription that will hopefully help you to find out what the Church that is saved is like…
The Church That Is Saved
(adapted from a sermon by Pr Huang Chih Chieh)
The Pursuit of Happiness
We all want to live a good life. Yet, why is it that some of us actually lose the momentum in our lives? This is because we sometimes no longer feel love in them.
Even so, if you feel that your life has no motivating factor, then all the more you should go to church; because God is love. God is the source of love. And the house of God is the source of love. This God of love is our Heavenly Father, and He has a direct relationship with us. He is the one True God who created the entire universe.
Who is He? What is the relationship He has with us? What else does He want to tell us? What does He want to give to us? In a previous article, we have proved that what is written in the Bible concerns life; and what is written in this bible is true, thus we need to return and acknowledge our Father.
Doing so is not just to receive blessings but it is our duty as human beings to acknowledge our origins. As long as we are willing, our Heavenly Father will give us bountiful blessings.
Where should we look for Him?
To find Jesus, we have to go to a church. The question now is, “Are all churches the same? Are all churches saved?”
There was once I preached to a particular city, and there was a Traditional Chinese Medical expert there and he was the chairman of the society of Chinese medicine there. He believed in Jesus and came to baptise into Jesus Christ.
When he was about to die, he called me over and said to me, “I hope that my son can also come to believe in Jesus.” His wife also reflected the same thing to me. So one day I looked for his son. His son was lecturing in the university and after I shared with him, he was able to accept that Jesus is God and Jesus is the Heavenly Father.
Then he posed me a question, “I see that there were multitude of people believing in Jesus and there are many churches. Must I come to True Jesus Church?” I replied, “It doesn’t matter which church you go to, but most importantly you go to a church that can save you.”
He said, “What you said here is different from what your church say in the internet.” I replied, “It’s the same.” He asked, “How can what you say be the same?” and I told him once I finished explaining he would understand it was the same thing.
But at this point, does it really matter to you whether the True Jesus Church is the only church that saves? If you ask me whether the True Jesus Church is the only church that saves I will say “definitely”.
Yet let us first put this aside because the first thing to consider is that you are here to seek the True God and that you want to be saved. You must find the church that can save; if you want to find the church that saves, the first criteria is the church must have the truth.
Church that Saves: Having the Truth
“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” – John 14:6
Here Jesus tells us that if not through Him, no one can come to the Father. Jesus is the way to lead us to eternal life. If we do not believe in Jesus, we cannot acknowledge our originator and we cannot return to Him. Believing in Jesus is the only path for us to return to our Heavenly Father – there is no other way.
Jesus also says here, “I am the Truth”. Without the truth, no one can return to the Father. From this verse, we know that in His church, there must be the truth.
Jesus prophesied this long ago, that not everyone who believes in Jesus will be saved. This is written in the Bible.
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” – Matthew 7:21-23
Why is it many who believe in Jesus not being able to be saved? Can those who call on the name, “Lord, Lord” be able to enter Heaven? Here it says only those who does the will of My Father in heaven, that person can enter.
If a person who just stands there and claim he believes in Jesus, “Oh Lord I prayed in Your Name.”, can such a person enter heaven? Jesus says no.
Only he who does the will of God can enter Heaven. What this means is that the church must keep the truth of the Lord, which is the will of the Heavenly Father. Only then can he be saved.
What is the Truth?
We are told not to add or subtract anything from the Bible or we would face severe consequences (Rev 22: 18-19) and this we must heed. Fundamental to any Church that is saved is the truth according to the Bible.
Following the Commandments
Today all of the Christian denominations say they practise the Ten Commandments because the Ten Commandments transcend time. The Ten Commandments is the will of God.
However, within those contain this commandment:
“Remember the Sabbath, to keep it holy” – Exodus 20:28
God once again reminded us that we have to remember how God created the universe on this day. Why do people say that it applies to the people in the Old Testament while the people in the New Testament don’t have to be reminded of this? Why is it that the rest of the Ten Commandments need to be kept but the fourth commandment isn’t? Why is every commandment except the fourth commandment kept? This is because it has been changed. Did God change it? No, man changed it.
History records, and records this very clearly. But the question is: “Can man change the will of God?” And this will of God is instituted on the seventh day after creation! The Lord Jesus said there are some people who believe in Jesus, but they are not willing to keep the will of the Heavenly Father. They changed such an important will of the Heavenly Father, will God be happy?
There are countless examples and I can’t list them all within this limited time – Foot Washing, or baptism where people did not go to the living water to get baptised. What Jesus said is the word. We cannot change the Word of God for the sake of the convenience of man.
Remember that Jesus once said this.“If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever – the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” – John 14:15-17
It is a problem if someone keeps saying he loves God but does not keep the commandments of God. If you love your spouse but whatever he says you do not listen, he will never feel the love that you have. You can make such a bold claim that we love God but will our Heavenly Father accept it? If He does not accept it, it is in vain.
The Abidance of the Holy Spirit
God says we must keep His commandments; that means we must have the truth. Then God will give to us a Helper. This Helper is the Spirit of Truth. A church that obeys the commandment of God definitely has the Holy Spirit. And this Holy Spirit when we receive it we will be able to see and hear something.
It is the Holy Spirit when it enters into our hearts, gives us utterance in a language that no one can understand – a spiritual language.
“Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.” – Acts 2:33
In the times of Acts when they received the Holy Spirit, Peter came out and explained to them. Not only in this verse, in other passages of the bible, does it record that when people received the Holy Spirit, they were able to know the exact number of people who received – He could be seen and heard. This is the exact scenario that we have in church today. When we receive the Holy Spirit, God will guide us before Him.
Miracles, Signs and Wonders
A Church that is saved will have the Holy Spirit. The Truth and the Holy Spirit, they must be present. They complement each other. And because this church has the truth and the Holy Spirit, then Jesus’ presence will be abiding. And because Jesus abides and He wants to prove that what is taught here is true, miracles, signs and wonders will accompany.
“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.” – Mark 16:15-18,20
This is the promise of Jesus. In True Jesus Church we have countless examples of people who died and actually resurrected. Of those whom the doctors had pronounced some terminally ill but were healed, there are also countless examples.
Today if you want to find a church that is saved, this three conditions must be present. There must be the Truth, there must be the Holy Spirit, and miracles must accompany. If a church has miracles, but it doesn’t have the complete truth, then it doesn’t have the Holy Spirit; and that church cannot be saved. The Church must keep the truth.
